spend more online

Consumer confidence in shopping over the Internet is
growing and people are now prepared to spend larger
amounts online, according to the e-commerce company
Equire.
Several of Equire's web partners, including VanPeterson.com,
Hamleys and LinksofLondon have reported that the average
value of their Internet sales is rising and online sales
values are often several
|
times that of shop sales.
Peter Matthews, chairman and co-founder of Equire,
said in a statement that online retailing has become
an influential sales channel that designer brands cannot
ignore.
Matthews reflected that fears about pricing issues,
counterfeiting, product quality and customer service
previously led many designer companies to shy away from
the Internet, but these fears appear to have been overcome
as more and more luxury brands have launched web sites
or announced plans to do so later in the year.
'This change in attitudes stems from an industry recognition
that as long as their online presence and service upholds
the brand values and standards of excellence, the net
is a viable medium to vend high value items,' he added.
Although the Internet has been used by
many people to hunt down bargains, Equire believes that
there is a growing number of web users who are looking
for 'superior' products and customer service
